Hyperventilation as a strategy for improved repeated sprint performance
Thirteen male university athletes performed 10 sets of 10-second maximal pedaling on a cycle with a 60-second recovery.
During the hyperventilation phase they increased blood pH by 0.03-0.07 and lowered P(CO2) but the amount their power degradation decreased.
They maintain more power for longer by prolonging metabolic acidosis.
